Ano Natsu de Matteru Episode 1

Making an entrance.

The art for this series will immediately look similar to that of another "Ano" show. But will the plot be similarly compelling? We'll see.

Kaito, always with camera in hand, has a run in with a crash landing alien that nearly kills him. He wakes up not remembering much, except he has a feeling the new sempai at his school is somehow familiar. One thing leads to another and we end up with a rather strange moment of pure ecchi at the end.

I am hopeful about this series. This first ep is basically the positioning of the pieces and the raising of a number of questions about Kaito, his family and friends that will drive the actions. The dialogue is quality, the characters look interesting, and the production quality is top shelf so far.

She looks like Rukia here. Kinda.

There are some hints of silliness and "running off the rails" that may cause problems. Are we really going to leverage the live-in ecchi angle? Is this interesting sci-fi or silly sci-fi (the bloby side-kick has me worried, as does the "kiss the heal" mechanism)?

A decent start that needs some panning out.

Rating: B+
