Last Exile - Fam, the Silver Wing Episode 1

The second series maintains mucht at was wonderous in the first. great character designs and art by Range Murata, fantastics steam-punk ships and weapons, and amazing sky battles. The characters and setting have changed, and it is unclear how this relates to the first season. Dio is still around and doesn't seemed to have changed since we last saw him disappear into the Grand Stream. There was also a reference to "Sophia and your King" that makes me think it was Princess Sophia from the first series. But the kingdom names have changed. It will take some time to unfold all of what is going on.

Some really cool new combat scenes.

The main action in the first EP sets up the war between Turan and Ades kingdoms and sets up how Fam comes to be linked with one of them (Turan). The sky-battle was entertaining and overall this made for a good opening EP.

However, I did have a few problems with this first ep. Given that this is a sequel series (in a sense), it  would have been nice for the contextualization to be earlier in the episode. Even if it weren't a sequel, this would have been nice as the narrative is a little disorenting before you are finally told more of what's going on. It doesn't have to be the first scene - character introduction is important as well - but it should have come before the princess playing in the lake.
