Chihayafuru Episode 3

Our three main characters team up and head to a karuta society. there they get into a match with some of the local players, demolishing them and growing as a team...and as friends. they plan to participate in a tournament together and start training furiously. however, things become complicated when Taichi gets into a high level middle school to which he will have to commute and Arata reveals that he is returning to his original home to be with his grandfather who has fallen ill. Chihaya is hurt and doesn't want to compete any longer, knowing that she is going to be left alone. but in the end, the all show up and do their best in their first and last tournament together. As the leaving sets in Chihaya and Arata play one last game amidst his packed boxes. Arata breaks down, sad to leave and thankful for their friendship, but Chihaya reminds him that as long as they still have Karuta, they can still see each other.

Fast, ね?

this episode, like the prior ones, is really heart warming. Again the story telling is fantastic. While the pace is a little quick, the development of the characters, and their friendship is well articulated. Another fantastic episode.
