Chihaya and Taichi start to put the karuta club together despite all the murmuring that it's a waste of their time and talent.

Tatami is heavy. Who knew? |
But, will they get members? Looks like it, but they aren't your run of the mill students.

Hello Kana-chan. |
The first possible recruit, Kana-chan, turns out to be a nut (read: otaku) for traditional Japanese culture and history and knows the back stories to the 100 poems used in karuta.
|
Hazing? |
This, of course, is a very different kind of karuta from what Chihaya and Taichi are used to and Chihaya starts to learn there is more to the game than just the competitiveness. There is a cultural heritage and liveliness.

Each poem holds a story. |
I love the cultural aspects of this show. It brings out pieces of Japanese history and cultural that are truly intriguing. This episode in particular did a fabulous job.

Welcome hugs! (uh, can i join?) |
