Accel World 1

Accel World is an unexpectedly intelligent series. Haruyuki, a portly high schooler on the receiving end of a great deal of unwanted bullying and pity, wants to see his world "accelerated". But with the neuro-linked digitally enhanced world he lives in, the only outlet for this comes in a small corner of a virtual world.

All this changes when the Black Snow Princess - his schools Student Council President - takes an interest in him and shows him the doorway to a whole new world.

There are a number of things to like here. The setting is clever, the art and production quality are impressive, and I like that the main male lead isn't some bishounen but is someone a bit more ordinary (even if the main female lead is some beauty queen).

Definitely recommend this. It is like a mixture of Denno Coil and ./hack Sign.
