We left off with a crescent shaped Exile ship returning entering the atmosphere and wreaking utter destruction. This episode comes in mid battle in another place with a different enemy as the Ades Federation continue their conquest of Turan.

We get a lot more back story and context in this episode and, in classic Last Exile fashion, the subplots go spinning out all over the place. Fam and Giselle's back stories are also fleshed out some.
They have this interesting interlude with what they call Okuribi, a sort of religious observence "sending off" the dead back to the skies. The whole thing has a very confucian/daoist feel to it, particularly with the lamplighting. But the way it is portrayed is an interesting image of how a displaced people comes to understand their comings and goings and gives meaning to them.
